Freedom Network Update: Resistance forces on Mindanao, the Philippines, thwart an attempt by the Visitors to occupy the island; in Brazil the Resistance suffer a setback after several leaders of the Mato Grosso division are captured and executed; a major victory is declared in New Mexico along the Santa Fe trail between Taos and Albuquerque after a number of Visitor outposts are overrun and destroyed; the Medal of Valor is awarded to Marilyn McGeorge, a housewife from Biloxi, Mississippi, who used her husband's fishing boat to ram and sink a Visitor patrol boat off the Gulf coast.
It's the holiday season in Los Angeles, and Kyle Bates takes Elizabeth out to buy a corsage. However, their flower peddler is actually an old woman who has been blackmailed by Diana to find Elizabeth and get a sample of her blood. After poking Elizabeth's finger with a dioxin-veneered holly thorn, the woman returns the sample to Diana. Diana plans to create her own clone of the Star Child so she can determine why Elizabeth is immune to the Red Dust and develop an anti-toxin for the bacteria. The old woman reminds Diana of her promise that the woman and her husband would be together again for Christmas dinner — and Diana says they will be together, but for the Visitors' dinner.
Meanwhile, Mike Donovan and Ham Tyler are aiding an underground railroad that smuggles children from Visitor-occupied territory into the open city of Los Angeles. At a church that serves as a halfway house, they run into a familiar comrade-in-arms, Chris Faber. Having escaped from the failed desert Resistance movement, he's been operating the side of the underground railroad that transports the children to the halfway house. One of the children reminds Ham of a child he had in Vietnam, and her presence is most difficult for him.
At the Club Creole, Willie plays a rather off-key "Deck the Halls With Lousy Folly" until a tough Visitor shoves him away from the piano. The Visitor then sits down and proceeds to play the equivalent of a national anthem to the Visitors. Julie Parrish arrives on the scene and attempts to drown out the "noise" by singing "The Star-Spangled Banner." The Visitor plays more loudly, and Julie sings more loudly. Soon her fellow freedom fighters as well as the other human restaurant patrons join in and the Visitor pianist admits defeat and leaves. While all this was happening, the Resistance members were secretly being photographed by an operative of Mr. Chiang. Satisfied that the restaurant is the group's hideout, Nathan Bates and Mr. Chiang make plans to destroy the Club Creole and squash the Resistance.
In her lab, Diana is overseeing the growth of her Star Child clone. Her assistant, Dennis, is concerned that Diana has interfered too much with the DNA structure of the being because it's growing out of control. Diana insists that she is a serious scientist, and her little experiment is indeed under her control. Later, however, a Visitor guard is killed after investigating a noise in the lab. Diana and Dennis rush in to find that the clone has escaped! Diana orders Laird, their best tracker, to find and return the being.
Robin Maxwell and her daughter have a heart-to-heart about Kyle. Elizabeth confides that she and Kyle are in love, and Robin realizes that Kyle is not interested in her. Not far away, the clone kills again before entering a cocoon state much like Elizabeth once did. (In fact, footage from "Liberation Day" and "Dreadnaught" is used.) The clone emerges from her chrysalis as a young woman of Elizabeth's age.
Managing to stay one step ahead of Laird, the clone finds her way to the house where Elizabeth and Kyle are staying. She silently watches Kyle shower for a while, then waits for Elizabeth to return home. Finally, Elizabeth and her clone meet. But Laird suddenly bursts in, and the startled clone leaps at him to protect Elizabeth. The clone is fatally shot in the process, and Kyle then shoots Laird. Before the clone dies, Elizabeth shares a solemn moment with her. Later, Willie remarks to Elizabeth that the teachings of Xon indicate that all creatures seek to reunite with their source, and to come together in peace and good will. Despite Diana's meddling, perhaps that is why the clone sacrificed her life to save Elizabeth.
At Science Frontiers, Bates and Mr. Chiang setup a test of Julie's loyalty. After informing her that the Club Creole is about to be destroyed, they watch on security cameras as Julie rushes back to her lab. She phones the Resistance to warn them, but her phone has been tapped and Bates answers instead of the restaurant — Julie is discovered! However, Julie is able to escape the building and she races away to notify her friends of their imminent danger.
Julie arrives at the Club Creole just in time to see the building rocked by an explosion. However, it was the Resistance members themselves who blew up the building (with Mr. Chiang's men inside) while they remained safe in the basement. Later, Ham plays Santa to the refugee children, and the Resistance celebrates the holiday with toasts to victory, to friends and family, and to peace.
